Your Google Place ID is a unique code that identifies your business on Google Maps. You need it to create a direct “Leave a Review” link — the kind you can text to clients after an appointment and they land straight on the review form. No searching, no scrolling, no friction.
Three methods below, all free, no coding required. Pick whichever feels easiest. The whole thing takes about 2 minutes.
What Is a Google Place ID?
A Google Place ID is a unique identifier that Google assigns to every location on Google Maps — every business, park, landmark, and address. It’s how Google tells your salon apart from every other listing in the world.
A few things to know:
- It always starts with ChIJ
- It never changes unless Google merges or removes your listing
- It’s not the same as your Google Business Profile ID or your Maps URL
- You only need to find it once — then save it somewhere
Why you need it
With your Place ID, you can build a direct link that opens the Google review form for your business:
YOUR_PLACE_ID
Send that link to a client via WhatsApp or text and they tap once to leave you a review. No searching for your business, no getting lost in Google Maps. That’s the link that turns “happy but silent” clients into five-star reviews.
Tools like Tavix use your Place ID to automatically include a review link in thank-you messages sent after completed appointments — so you never have to ask awkwardly again.
Method 1: Google’s Place ID Finder
Recommended — 60 secondsThis is the easiest method. Google built a free tool for exactly this.
-
Open the Place ID Finder
Go to Google’s Place ID Finder. Don’t let the “developers” in the URL scare you — it’s just a map with a search box.
-
Search for your business
In the search box on the map, type your business name and city. For example: “Glow Beauty Studio London” or “Lisa’s Nails Milton Keynes”.
-
Select your business from the dropdown
As you type, Google shows autocomplete suggestions. Click your business name when it appears.
-
Copy the Place ID
A popup appears on the map showing your business name, address, and Place ID. That’s the code you need — it starts with ChIJ. Copy it.
Method 2: From Your Google Business Profile
AlternativeIf you already manage your business on Google (via business.google.com), you can get a review link without even knowing your Place ID.
-
Sign in to your Google Business Profile
Go to business.google.com and sign in with the Google account that manages your listing.
-
Click “Ask for reviews”
The button label varies — it might say “Ask for reviews”, “Share review form”, or “Get more reviews”. Google generates a short review link for you.
-
Copy and share the link
This link already works for sharing with customers. If you need the raw Place ID (for tools like Tavix), use Method 1 to look it up separately.
Method 3: Google Maps + Browser Inspector
AdvancedIf the other methods don’t work — for example, your listing is unusual or doesn’t appear in autocomplete — you can find it manually. This requires a desktop browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). It won’t work on mobile.
-
Search for your business on Google Maps
Go to google.com/maps and search for your business by name.
-
Open the browser inspector
When the business panel appears on the left, right-click anywhere on the panel and click “Inspect”. This opens the browser’s developer tools. (It looks technical — don’t worry, you only need to do one thing.)
-
Search for “data-pid”
Press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to open the search bar within the code. Type data-pid and press Enter. The value in quotes next to
data-pid=is your Place ID.
Test Your Place ID
Once you have your Place ID, verify it works. Paste it below and click “Build Link”:
Click the link — if the Google review form opens and shows your business name, you’ve got the right Place ID. If you get an error or the wrong business, double-check the ID and try Method 1 again.
What to Do With Your Place ID
Now that you have it:
- Tavix users: Go to Settings → Business Profile → Edit and paste it in the “Google Maps Location” field. Tavix will automatically include a review link in thank-you messages sent after completed appointments.
- Manual use: Build the review link (using the tool above) and share it via WhatsApp, text, email, or print it as a QR code for your reception desk.
- Save it somewhere — you only need to find it once. Put it in your phone notes, a Notion doc, wherever you keep business details.
Frequently Asked Questions
My business doesn’t appear in the Place ID Finder.
Make sure your Google Business Profile is verified and your listing is live. Try searching with your full address instead of just the business name. Adding the postcode or street name often helps. If your business is very new, it may take a few days for Google to index it.
Can a Place ID change?
Rarely. It can change if Google merges duplicate listings or if you move to a completely new address. If your review link suddenly stops working, look up the Place ID again using Method 1.
What if I have multiple locations?
Each location has its own Place ID. Look up each one separately and configure them individually in your booking platform or review tool.
Is this free?
Yes. Finding your Place ID and using the review link is completely free. Google charges nothing for this.
What does a Place ID look like?
It’s a string of letters and numbers that always starts with ChIJ. Example: ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4. The length varies but it’s typically around 27 characters.
